Sterility in surgical asepsis is maintained by keeping all objects within a sterile field. Any contact with non-sterile objects would contaminate the field, breaking the aseptic technique. Wearing gloves, while important for both clean and sterile procedures, is not sufficient in itself to maintain a sterile environment. Double gloving and changing gloves frequently also protect against contamination but do not guarantee sterility.
